Registered Designs in Singapore


Registered Design is "the appearance of the whole or part of a product resulting from the features of, in particular, the lines, contours, colors, shape, texture or materials of the product or its ornamentation."  
The “product" designed could be a industrial or a handicraft item and in particular could include things like packaging, getup, graphic symbols ,typographic typefaces and parts of products intended to be assembled into a more complex product. A registered design protects the appearance of the type of product mentioned above e.g. E.g. fabric pattern for a sofa, mobile phone design.
 
Requirements for Registered Designs
  • It has to be new.
  • Industrial Process - The design has to be applied to an article by an industrial process i.e. more than 50 copies of the article have been or are intended for production for sale or hire.
Registration
  • Registration fees are about S$220 per design.
  • Professional fees are charged by the company filing the design on behalf of the client. Typical professional fees range from S$500 to S$800 per design.
  • The estimated processing time is 2-3 months.
